Sarah Brightman Celebrates 40 Years of The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre

Sarah Brightman returned to London’s His Majesty’s Theatre for a spectacular gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, four decades after originating the iconic role of Christine Daaé in the West End production.

The special anniversary celebration brought together Andrew Lloyd Webber, members of the original creative team, and past and present performers to honour the extraordinary legacy of one of the world’s most beloved and enduring musicals.

Having originated the role of Christine Daaé when the production first opened in London in October 1986, Sarah’s return to His Majesty’s Theatre marked a particularly meaningful moment in the musical’s history.

One of the evening’s most memorable highlights saw Sarah reunite on stage with Michael Crawford, who originated the role of the Phantom alongside her in the original West End production. Together, the original Christine and Phantom returned to the stage for a special anniversary performance, celebrating the music and legacy that began their extraordinary journey four decades ago.

The evening also provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, share cherished memories and celebrate the generations of performers, creatives and audiences who have contributed to the musical’s remarkable success over the past 40 years.

From an unforgettable performance to emotional reunions and celebrations behind the scenes, the gala was a fitting tribute to the music, creativity and enduring legacy of The Phantom of the Opera.
